My Story Thus Far

Sarala John (she/her) is a second-year college student at Agnes Scott College, currently pursuing Bachelor’s degrees majoring in both Creative Writing and Business Management, and a minor in Public Health. Her interests lie primarily in literary and cinematic post-colonial narratives, and telling generational, third-culture stories through her writing. She deeply values interdisciplinary learning to widen her scope of experience and ability to connect with a diverse audience. Ultimately, this outlook enriches her work and propels her towards her passion to foster communities particularly in Non-profit spaces. Within the domain of writing, she enjoys crafting creative-nonfiction essays, and poetry, as the third poet in her maternal family line originating from Kerala, India. Most recently she wrote an essay, "Redefining Cross-Culture,” focusing on how to approach the intersection between cultural heritage and faith in the context of the South Indian church, which became a featured piece for the North American Diocese Youth Fellowship Conference. Currently, she is working on co-translating her grandfather’s unpublished Malayalam poems in hopes to compile and produce an anthology laying the groundwork for her own tributary writing projects.
